ATLANTA — Hundreds of Atlanta residents will receive a full year worth of assistance following the approval of a new pilot program.

Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms pushed to establish a Mayors for a Guaranteed Income Pilot Program, as revealed in a recent press release. The Income Mobility Program for Atlanta Community Transformation has been titled “I.M.P.A.C.T.” The program is dedicated to serving 300 Atlanta residents with monthly payments.

The residents must be at least 18 years old, as well as live below 200% of the federal poverty line. Participants within the program will be awarded $500 per month in guaranteed income for up to the full 12 months of it’s pilot period.

In order to launch the program, the City of Atlanta will donate $2 million to the local nonprofit organization Urban League of Greater Atlanta. The league will receive an additional $500,000 from the Mayors for a Guaranteed Income organization.

“I.M.P.A.C.T. is another major step toward our vision of One Atlanta – a more equitable, affordable, resilient city,” Mayor Bottoms said in the press release. “This pilot program is an innovative solution to the pervasive economic insecurity and income inequality that exists around the country and it is a bold investment in our most underserved communities.”

The Atlanta City Council has also provided legislative approval of Bottoms’ Child Savings Account Program, a program designed to serve and support Atlanta kindergartners from low-income households.
